MacDermid Introduces New LUX Process

LAS VEGAS, NV | MacDermid Printing Solutions announced at the Flexographic Technical Assn.’s Info*Flex on May 2 a new platemaking process, called LUX, that’s claimed to allow printers to take flexo printing to the next level. The process is said to produce digital plates with an extended print gamut, reduced fluting in post-print corrugated, and overall improved print performance with smoother vignettes, higher contrast, and faster press startup. It works with existing plates from MacDermid, does not require modification to current equipment, and can be used with all flexo lasers. By including an additional quick step in the platemaking process, printers reportedly can enhance dot profile for cleaner, sharper print.

Essentially, the LUX process involves changing the profile of the dot in the plate and incorporates 1:1 imaging between the digital plate mask and printing plate, thus eliminating the need for a digital bump curve. Suitable for such applications as flexible packaging; tags and labels; sacks, paper, and multiwall; folding carton; and corrugated.
