International Paper Exec Retires; IP Announces Organizational Changes

STAMFORD, CT, USA—IP (International Paper) executive vice president, C. Wes Smith, will retire, effective at the end of January next year, says co. chairman/CEO John Dillion. "Wes has played a major role in the tremendous growth and success of our company," says Dillion. "[He's] worked in the paper-and-forest products industry for more than 43 years, and half of that time has been with International Paper."
Along with the announcement, Dillion reported several company organizational changes that are effective immediately. They include (but are not limited to): George O'Brien, sr. VP-Forest Resources, will head up the company's Lumber, Panels & Engineered Wood Products businesses as well as Canada's Weldwood; Richard Phillips, sr. VP-Technology, will assume responsibility for the co.'s Environment, Health, and Safety and its related EHS Council; and Marianne Parrs will head up IP's logistics and purchasing group as well as the co.'s performance services.
