Scandinavian-Based Stora Enso Forms Specialty Papers Group to Serve Globe

HELSINSKI, FINLAND--With specialty paper production capabilities in three countries, Stora Enso announces the formation of the specialty papers business group. According to the international forest-products mfr., the new business group will be situated within the co.'s packaging boards division, and its production will come from the Steven Point mill (US), the Uetersen paper machine No. 1 (Germany), and the Imatra paper machine No. 6 (Finland).
In addition, says co., the group will market the specialty papers of the Kimberly mill paper machine No. 95 (US). According to Stora Enso, the annual production capacity of the new group will be about 330,000 metric tonnes (363,000 tons), will account for approximately 10% of the packaging board division's sales, and will include products for the flexible packaging, technical papers, and label papers markets.
"We plan to establish a global specialty papers sales presence to serve our global customers effectively," says John Bergin, senior VP for the new group. "We expect these broadened markets to create valuable synergies for our customers and Stora Enso." Bergin is with the Stevens Point Mill located in the United States.
