Heidelberg Hosts Live, Integrated Print Shop at Graph Expo 2008
- Published: October 01, 2008
KENNESAW, Ga. | Heidelberg is inviting attendees of Graph Expo 2008 to see the latest equipment, technologies and workflow solutions in a running, completely integrated “print shop” environment. The “shop,” which will be located in Heidelberg’s booth #1200, will demonstrate Heidelberg’s theme of “HEI Performance and HEI Value” through a range of featured prepress, commercial print, packaging, postpress, service and workflow solutions.
Visitors to the Heidelberg booth will learn what it means to “Get Prinected” and experience the benefits of shop integration at Graph Expo, which will be held in Chicago at McCormick Pl. on Oct. 26-29. Three times a day, visitor s to the Heidelberg booth will be invited to Heidelberg’s main theater for a presentation highlighting the benefits of a fully integrated print shop workflow. Called “From the Front Office to the Loading Dock: the Competitive Advantage of a Fully Integrated Workflow,” the presentation will show that a print shop’s greatest strength is a workflow that can cope with complex processes and provide clear and simple answers.
Booth visitors also can experience the latest in the company’s sheet-fed technology. Making its US debut at Graph Expo 2008 is the Heidelberg Speedmaster XL 105 press with perfecting unit, which is designed to optimize One-Pass Productivity for large-format printing. The XL 105-10P shown in the perfector configuration will run at speeds of up to 15,000 iph. In the straight printing configuration, the XL 105 can print at 18,000 iph. The company says the XL 105 is perfect for commercial or packaging customers due to its ability to accommodate a wide range of substrates. The XL 105-10P press shown at Graph Expo will feature Prinect Inpress Control, which won a 2008 InterTech Technology Award and is the first in-line device for sheetfed presses that uses spectrophotometry to measure color and register while the press is running.
Also shown on the XL 105-10P at Graph Expo will be Prinect Press Center, which features a 40” Wallscreen unit where all press conditions and operations can be viewed at a glance including color and register control. Prinect Press Center will be available for all new Speedmaster presses. In addition to the new XL 105-10P, Heidelberg also will showcase Integrated Workflow Solutions, which include its full array of Prinect workflow solutions, including the new Prinect Postpress Manager, which integrates postpress processes, and the Prinect Schedulerelectronic planning board – both of which lead to significant enhancements in production sequence efficiency; and Postpress Technology Solutions, featuring fast makeready paired with operating efficiency, including folders, cutters, die cutters, folding carton gluers, saddlestitchers and adhesive binders.
Heidelberg will demonstrate the POLAR PACE (POLAR Automated Cutting for Efficiency) system, which was recently recognized for superior automation with a 2008 InterTech Technology Award. The system, which will be demonstrated with a POLAR 137 XT cutter, requires only one operator to load a skid, increasing overall productivity. Also shown will be the 14,000 cycles-per-hour Stitchmaster ST 450 saddlestitcher, boasting high levels of automation, flexibility, and productivity, and Heidelberg’s fully-automated Stahlfolder TH 66 folder, which is modular in design, allowing easy configuration to meet the needs of every print job. The folder will be shown with the TSH 70 SPA Twinstacker, a vertical pile unit with two stacking levels arranged on top of one another for high performance.
Heidelberg also will debut its new Saphira Violet Chemfree plates at this year’s Graph Expo show. The new plates, for use on Heidelberg Prosetter models, are a low-process version of violet plates. No chemistry is needed other than plate gum, making the Saphira Violet Chemfree plates easier to use and resulting in less waste. Additionally, all of the equipment in the Heidelberg “print shop” will feature Saphira branded consumables, including pressroom supplies, rollers, inks, plates, blankets and cleaning systems. The XL 105 will use a full array of performance-optimized Saphira press consumables, from the new Saphira Pro Blanket to the new Saphira Ink Select process and PMS inks.
