Howard Vreeland, Sr., Dies at 87

BRYAN, OH | Howard B. Vreeland Sr., owner and chairman emeritus of the board of directors for Anderson-Vreeland Co. , died Friday, June 13, 2008, at Community Hospitals and Wellness Ctr., in Bryan, OH, where he had been a patient for the past two days. He was 87.

Mr. Vreeland was born on October 4, 1920, in Caldwell, NJ, and was a graduate of the Kingspoint Merchant Marine Academy in Long Island, NY. He was actively involved in the FTA since its inception in 1959, as well as other graphic arts associations. Mr. Vreeland served as vice chairman of the Solicitation Committee of the FTA, chairman of the board of trustees, was a workshop head for two years, and received their President’s Award in May 2002. He was a former director of the Graphic Preparatory Assn. (GPA), an association that awarded him its President’s Award in 1972. Mr. Vreeland also received the Marking Devices Assn.’s President’s Award and was a member of TAPPI.

Surviving Mr. Vreeland are his three children, Alice L. and her husband Jochen Kuehner of Hamm, Germany; Howard B. Jr. and his wife Ann Vreeland of Bryan, and Patricia L. Coon of Bryan, and her fiancé Mike Pennington; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. His parents, his wife Alice, one great-grandson, Jonas Ethan Vreeland, and one brother, John Vreeland, preceded him in death.
