DuPont Readies for Online Orders

TROY, MI, USA—In response to customer needs for faster, more convenient and efficient transactions, DuPont reports it is accepting registrations for direct orders of engineering plastics via a new site, plastics.dupont.com. According to the co., the new global e-commerce capability (starting January 2002) includes instant on-line order entry and order-status reporting in multiple languages.

"This direct, on-line order capability complements our participation with Omnexus, the neutral electronic marketplace for engineering plastics, without compromising customer preferences for placing orders via conventional means or through our distributor partners worldwide," says Pascal Rechatin, DuPont Engineering Polymers E-Business leader. "Our customers want to preserve their options, but we expect the number of those that will choose to use our direct, full e-commerce capabilities will grow exponentially over the coming year," he adds.

Customer pilots of the "DuPont Direct" order capability began early in 2001 in Canada, Mexico, and Brazil, says the co. In the latter part of the year, paperless on-line customer transactions were conducted in Korea, China, and the US. DuPont reports the on-line order capability will expand to all of Western Europe starting in January 2002, and also will expand in later months to Japan, Taiwan, Australia, and Eastern Europe.
