AIMCAL's Converting School to Host Upcoming Courses

FORT MILL, SC | The Converting School, which has been launched by the Assn. of Industrial Metallizers, Coaters & Laminators (AIMCAL) to provide productivity-enhancing educational opportunities for members of the converting industry, is hosting two upcoming courses in Philadelphia, PA.
The first course, "Web Process for Barrier," to be held June 10-11, will be conducted by Dr. Charlie Bishop and provides an overview of the technologies that can be applied to deliver barrier materials for food packaging, display, and photovoltaic (solar) applications. Initial discussion focuses on the fundamentals of diffusion and permeation to provide an understanding of the contributions and limitations of materials and processes. Advanced topics include newer technologies such as nanotechnology, scavengers, and indicators that result in "smart" materials.

The second, intermediate level course on the operation, optimization, and design of extrusion lamination and coating processes, "Optimizing Extrusion-Based Lamination and Coating Technology," focuses on improving existing extrusion lamination and coating equipment. It will be conducted by Dr. Eldridge Mount. The course is organized according to unit processes to facilitate understanding of potential productivity improvements that can be achieved by optimizing or upgrading existing machines or specifying new equipment.
