Barco's Webcenter Lets Converters Create Central Store of Package Designs

VANDALIA, OH, USA—Earlier this month, Barco Graphics announced WebCenter, a tool for communicating and presenting product design and specs via the Internet. According to the software manufacturer, the web-based software provides converters with the ability to create a central store of designs, which they can use internally to improve the efficiencies at their own operations. In addition, the software can be used externally with converting operations' customers.

Says Simon James, Barco's VP, business development, "WebCenter provides the foundation for creating leading-edge web presence while fully leveraging a company's design data. With over 20 years of experience in delivering software to packaging companies, Barco will continue to create solutions that address the needs of this rapidly changing market."

WebCenter, reports Barco, provides the tools to fully utilize design information from the ArtiosCAD environment on a corporate web site. Designs can be searched based on flexible attributes, so users will find the exact design they need quickly, adds co.

In addition to Barco's web-initiative expansion, the company recently announced its Flexo Implementation Quality (FIQ) certification program. According to the Belgium-based company, FIQ is focused on helping clients maximize the benefits of digital flexo plate imaging. Through assessment of current processes and process-optimization education, the customer obtains the knowledge and tools to take full advantage of the Barco CDI digital flexo imager.

According to Barco, the benefits of participating in the FIQ program are many, including:

  • acquiring knowledge from a team of experts that have been involved in the widest array of industry situations;
  • gathering the necessary tools to perform high quality printing on a regular basis;
  • characterization of the presses; and
  • optimization of the digital workflow for maximum profitability.

Other recent Barco news included its announced merger with the Denmark-based Purup-Eskofot at Print 01. The new company will go by the project name "BPE" until Q1, 2002, when the newly merged manufacturer will release its new name, reports company officials.
