BEDFORD, U.K.—Valmet Converting reports a unique approach to customer-focused communications for service and support. The co. says the new Valmet 24-7 HelpLine was launched at K 2001 in Düsseldorf, Germany.

"The customer HelpLine became operational November 1, 2001, on a 24-hr/day, 7-day/wk basis," says the co., "and answers telephone inquiries for all product groups within Valmet Converting." Valmet explains the service HelpLine resolves the problem of un-staffed offices and unavailability of personnel. It also says calls will be answered promptly, and if outside of normal working hours--which are from 08:00-18:00 CET--will be processed the next day.

Valmet's 24-7 HelpLine will cover as many languages as possible for an optimum customer-friendly environment, says the co., and one simple call to the internationally accessible toll-free number (+800 4321 8000) is all that's required.

In related K Show news, Valmet reports it completed several machine sales to show attendees. According to the co., contracts for significant invesment projects in the plastic film industry were signed right up to the last hour of the exhibition's final day. Some of the highlights include:

• An Atlas 6.8m primary film slitter was sold to a plastic film manufacturer for its new production plant in South America;

• An order for an Atlas CW800 (slitter/rewinder) from the Middle East was confirmed. The same customer purchased a Titan SR7 secondary slitter/rewinder and is continuting to negotiate the purchase of another large Valmet machine;

• Clifton Packaging Ltd., Leicester, England, also bought the Titan SR7 slitter/rewinder. Valmet reports Clifton's new machine will rewind packages up to 800 mm in diameter at 600 mpm, with both rotary and razor blades, and it features a separate, shaftless rewind stand;

• A General EHF4 1650 vacuum metallizer was sold to Macpac of Karachi, Pakistan, a producer of BOPP and metallized film used in the flexible packaging industry.
