Package Printing Expos Show Results

KENNESAW, GA & ARLINGTON, VA , USA—Reports from two package printing-related expositions in Chicago this fall may indicate that a slow economic recovery is indeed in progress. Heidelberg reports "strong" Graph Expo and Converting Expo (October 6 - 9, 2002) results. "The company far exceeded pre-show targets for sales and lead generation across all sectors," says the Germany-based press manufacturer, "including enhancements to existing product lines and new product introductions."
Adds Niels Winther, Heidelberg USA president, "Despite the soft economy and negative industry reports, we were committed to approaching Graph Expo with the same presence and attitude we've had in previous years. This strategy clearly paid off. Sales were extremely strong in all market segments, and we are futher buoyed by a tremendous flow of quality leads." Pack Expo Draws Packaging Professionals from 92 Countries
Nearly 72,000 packaging professionals attended Pack Expo International 2002 (November 3 -7). "With participation totaling 71,957, [the expo] drew 46,789 visitor attendees, including 5,978 international visitors from 92 countries, who came to evaluate, compare, and buy the latest packaging technology," says the Packaging Machinery Manufacturers Institute (PMMI), show sponsor. The conference, adds PMMI, drew a record 830 registrants.
Says Mark Garvey from PMMI: "Over the next twelve months, Pack Expo Intl. attendees will purchase billions of dollars worth of packaging equipment, materials, components, and containers. The proper measurements for a show's success are: 'Did attendees find innovative packaging solutions?' and 'Were they ready to buy?' The answer on both accounts was a resounding yes.
