Flint Launches UV Low-Migration Inks

STUTTGART, GERMANY | Flint Group announces the launch of its new generation of sheet-fed UV low migration inks: UltraCURA Sens, UltraCURA Sens Plas, and UltraCURA Sens Bases. Created out of a new resin technology system, these inks said to redefine quality and stability in the pressroom.

Trevor Amps, global product management director for energy curing inks, says, “We decided to use specifically selected resin principles for all our energy curing products, with common, balanced pigmentation levels. This will increase stability and performance consistency across our entire energy curing range. We’re calling it our Platform Technology, upon which all our future energy curing systems will be based.”

Amps says the first products based on the new technology, UltraCURA Sens, were developed specifically for food packaging applications where there‘s no direct contact between the printed image and the contents of the package.

The UltraCURA Sens systems are low-odor, low-migration process ink and base inks for sheet-fed and web offset packaging printing. They’re suitable for coated and uncoated papers and board, and Plas is also suitable for plastic substrates. They reportedly give excellent adhesion, good ink-water stability, good rub resistance, high color strength, fast curing speed, and due to low water pickup, good press stability.

Amps says, “At the very heart of Flint Group’s core values is the drive to innovate, develop, and instigate change. We also acknowledge that the packaging print market is a very fluid environment where our customers’ needs often change and innovation has become part of the landscape. And with continuing updates in regulations and the re-classification of raw materials, we’re driven to future-proof our products and to develop a portfolio at the cutting edge of production performance.”

According to the company, UltraCURA Sens and UltraCURA Sens Plas are particularly well suited for the production of packaging that complies with the requirements of the EU-regulation 1935/2004 and 2023/2006 as well as with the Swiss Ordinance 817.023.21. Additionally the series meets the requirements of the EuPIA Guideline: “Printing Inks applied to the non-food contact surface of food packaging materials and articles.”
