Esko-Graphics Webcenter Helps Folding Carton Converter's Service

VANDALIA, OH, USA—According to Esko-Graphics, its online packaging design database, "WebCenter," is helping smaller folding-carton converters dramatically improve cycle times for packaging design and development.

In a recent company release, Esko-Graphics reports on its WebCenter installation at Midlands Packaging Corp. A privately held Nebraska-based folding carton, corrugated, and thermoformed plastic manufacturer, Midlands stays competitive with its short runs and fast turnarounds. At the converting operation, says Esko-Graphics, WebCenter has become the launch pad for reaching a new level of customer service.

"Having immediate online access to all of our packaging design information is changing the way we do business," says Brent Lindquist, design and die room manager. "Our largest customers require us to keep track of hundreds of packaging specifications from multiple sites. In the past, that's been a time-consuming, hard-to-manage, 'paper-and-phone' function. WebCenter gave us an electronic platform to build a new model for customer communications," Lindquist explains. "Our customers now can log on and have access to critical packaging information. And at any time, from anywhere, purchasing people can monitor a project's status, while graphics people can download artwork and die line files."

According to Esko-Graphics, anyone with an Internet connection can use WebCenter to locate a specific package design quickly (by browsing thumbnail library, or by utilizing search criteria—package's common name, size, structural attributes, or purpose). In addition, says the co., designs can be viewed in a variety of electronic formats (DXF, PDF, ArtiosCAD, DDS, etc) as dimensional drawings or as assembled 3D models after being downloaded to a local desktop. The system features a number of high security controls that can restrict or limit a user's access and download capabilities, adds mfr.
