East African Event Shows Potential of Area

CHICAGO, IL | Messe Düsseldorf North America (MDNA) reports that the third Food Processing & Packaging Exposyum recently held in Nairobi confirmed that Kenya and its East African neighboring countries have great potential for suppliers of process and packaging technology.

Due to faulty processing and packaging as well as inadequate infrastructure, this is a region where large quantities of locally produced food are lost before they reaches the consumer, says MDNA. The SAVE FOOD initiative was therefore a prominent feature at the FPPE conference, involving the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and Messe Düsseldorf.

Feedback from approximately 920 visitors verified the value of the special FPPE format, which was a combination of symposium and exhibition specifically geared towards the needs of visitors and exhibitors since the East African market has its own specific requirements.

Bernd Jablonowski, global portfolio director packaging and processing at Messe Düsseldorf, says, “To operate successfully in the countries of East Africa and to open up the enormous potential of the market at an early stage, one needs to have precise knowledge of local conditions, the right contacts, and ultimately also a lot of patience.”

"Visitors responded very positively to the clear focus of the conference on relevant government and trade association issues as well as on food loss and needs-focused processing and packaging solutions,” says Thomas Dohse, deputy director at Messe Düsseldorf.

The next Food Processing & Packaging Exposyum will be held December 5–7, 2016, at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre in Nairobi
