Great Wall Plastic Industry Bhd., Malaysia, has installed new Windmöller & Hölscher (W&H) equipment at its Rawang facility. According to P.K. Wong, general manager-manufacturing, “The automation level of the W&H machines, combined with reduced manual settings and adjustments…will definitely generate higher cost advantages for us.”
Included in the installation are two Varex® blown film extrusion lines designed to produce single-layer films. One line features a 120.30D extruder and can handle film widths to 3,300 mm double-flat. Film quality is said to be assured by the Optifi® P automatic gauge profile control system. Other features include gravimetric metering, side gusset forming for the manufacture of shrink hoods, and a Filmatic® K dual winder. Output rates are reported to be 400 kg/h.
The other line utilizes a 70.30D extruder and can handle widths to 1,600 mm double-flat.
An Astraflex® CI flexo press is said to offer output speeds to 465 mpm. The press is equipped with eight color decks and is designed for a maximum print width of 1,570 mm. It is combined with a Portalift® robotic makeready system for automatic changeover of plate cylinders and anilox rolls.
Another important feature is the double-walled, temperature-controlled CI cylinder, which has a special surface finish designed to counteract the risk of corrosion as a result of the prevailing high air humidity in Malaysia.
