Decorative and Industrial Laminates Symposium
A symposium sponsored by the Decorative and Industrial Laminates Committee of the PLACE Division will be August 23 to 25, 2004, at the Omni Hotel at CNN Center in Atlanta, Georgia.

The meeting will attract professionals from all functional areas of high and low pressure laminates, decorative paper and printing, vinyl, foil, and overlay industries. Lee Miller, Vice Chairman of the Decorative and Industrial Laminates Committee is Program Coordinator for the meeting.

Typical information presented at the meeting will include new products and trends, raw materials, processes and equipment, specialty laminates and specialty applications, economics, global marketing, designs for new markets, marketing to compete with other technologies, and coping in a competitive environment. Miller notes that the meeting will provide enhanced opportunities for learning, sharing, and networking.

Monday morning of the symposium will feature an expanded set of concurrent tutorial sessions. Set in a classroom environment to optimize the learning experience and promote discussion, the tutorials will allow attendees to customize their schedules for optimum effectiveness. To avoid large class sizes, enrollment will be controlled.

Two plant tours will highlight the meeting on Monday afternoon. A tour of the Toppan plant will show the complete process of designing and printing decorative papers for the laminate industry.

The second tour is to the facilities of PICO, a global marketing company specializing in design and fabrication of major exhibitions, museum exhibits, and the like. Both plant tours can only accommodate a limited number of people so early registration is necessary.

Tuesday morning begins the technical program featuring presentations by industry experts. The day will close with the popular table-top displays and a cocktail reception at the hotel. The Decorative and Industrial Laminates Symposium has designated the final day of the meeting as Super Wednesday.

The presentations will focus on recent market developments and an outlook to the future. The format will include not only traditional presentations but also a special guest luncheon speaker. A special highlight will be the naming of the first inductees into the Decorative and Industrial Laminates Hall of Fame.

The afternoon program on Wednesday will include a panel of industry executives who will present “Over the Horizon,” an open discussion of their vision for the future of the laminate industry. Discussion from this session is certain to spill over to the following special reception and bring the 2004 Decorative and Industrial Laminating Symposium to a memorable conclusion.
