Payne Opts for Dusenbery Slitter
U.K.-based P.P. Payne is using a custom-built Dusenbery Model 785 as its primary slitter of jumbo rolls to be converted into Supastrip tear tapes.
A shaftless unwind stand loads 1,600-mm-wide rolls weighing up to 1,200 kg from floor level. Mounted on rails to take rolls to 1,200 mm in dia, a built-in splice table enables roll changes to be made with minimum downtime.
Because unwind edge alignment is critical, the 785 features a sensor that moves the web up to 50 mm either way to maintain alignment. From a 1,600-mm parent roll, the 785 reportedly delivers slit rolls accurate to 1 mm.
The machine has both score and shear slitting. After slitting, the web splits onto a cantilevered, twin-shaft rewind to produce rolls up to 1,000 mm dia.
