Mother Nature on the Run
- Published: September 01, 2010
When eco-conscious musician Neil Young, who uses a bio-fueled tour bus, put out an eight-disc collection of music from 1963-1972, package designer Gary Burden needed to ensure the boxed set retained its aesthetic appeal while using durable, sustainable materials. FSC-certified Duraprint turned-edge cover stock from Monadnock, Bennington, NH, met the requirements. It is manufactured carbon neutral with 100% renewable Green-e certified electrical energy. The box features newspaper articles that chronicle Young's ascent to fame. “Sustainability was a given,” says Burden. “Beyond that, durability and brightness were the two most important considerations for the outside box and cover stock. We really wanted to keep the subtleties of the newspaper reproductions intact.” Visit www.mpm.com.
