Folding Carton Boot Camp a Hit

SPRINGFIELD, MA | The Paperboard Packaging Council (PPC) recently hosted the Folding Carton Boot Camp workshop at its Springfield headquarters. Nineteen people attended the workshop from 13 different states.

The program mirrored the packaging production process, moving from how paper is made to inks and coatings, prepress, CAD, layout, graphics, presses, tooling, embossing, stamping, stripping, finishing, gluing, windowing, and automatic packaging equipment.

PPC president Ben Markens says, “The students told us that the insights they gleaned from the workshop will help them be more efficient and productive at their job.”

Diamond Packaging, Rochester, NY, installs a UV-capable, eight-color Speedmaster XL 105 press from Heidelberg, Kennesaw, GA. It features a special double coating configuration with initial flexo dispersion coater and three modular deliveries.
American Forest & Paper Assn., Washington, DC, reports April boxboard production increased 8.3% over April 2009. Containerboard production increased 14.6% over April 2009. Total kraft paper shipments increased 20.6% over April 2009.
