Edale Launches 'Hidden Secret': VLS-650

HANTS, UK | Edale, the UK-based manufacturer of narrow web printing and converting presses, recently announced the launch of its “infinitely adjustable sheeter,” the VLS-650. The VLS-650 is a fully servo driven sheet cutter that allows jumbo rolls of plain or pre-printed material to be fed through, and converted to sheets, resulting in a delivery of shingle or deep pile stacks. Although initially launched into the digital market—with installations on a number of AGFA :Dotrix Modular machines in companies worldwide—the machine can be run in-line with almost any web fed machinery, the company say.

One of the many features of the VLS-650 is the capability to process a wide range of substrate types from 80 micron-600 micron, and widths of between 510 mm—1,000 mm. These materials can be cut into constant or variable lengths, to register, and can respond to varying sheet lengths instantaneously, on the fly without the need to change tooling. This ability is achieved through an optical sensor which detects an approaching sheet; the cutting knife is then accelerated to web speed and positioned for the perfect cut.

In addition, Edale has redesigned its company literature with the introduction of a new-look corporate brochure and separate product datasheets, giving a more fresh and contemporary feel to the brand. The new brochure, which had its official launch at IPEX at the NEC in Birmingham from May 18—25,2010, highlighted the “new generation Edale” with a fresh look. With the current range of machines all having been manufactured since 2000, Edale felt a redesign would enhance the product range and reflect a 21st Century image.
