Sun Chemical Launches Fast-Curing Inks

PARSIPPANY, NJ | Sun Chemical recently introduced SolarFlex LED, its new range of high-performance UV-LED flexo, four-color process inks for surface printing on flexible films and labels for migration-compliant food packaging.

SolarFlex LED is based on SolarVerse, company’s new range of highly pigmented, low-viscosity, multipurpose UV flexo concentrates, as is SolarFlex FSP, the range of migration-compliant, UV flexo inks that the company launched earlier this year. Thanks to its patented M-Cure photoinitiators, SolarFlex LED is rapid curing, reportedly ensuring full cure at high press speeds, and is fully compliant with regulations for food, pharmaceutical, tobacco, and cosmetics packaging.

Inks are said to offer consistently low viscosity and unparalleled flow and to deliver high printability and ink transfer and low foaming characteristics for reliable press performance. The new product also has robust adhesion characteristics, allowing printers to use it on a wide range of plastic substrates, and provides high holdout on even the most absorbent substrates for increased print quality. The process inks are complemented by a surface print LED curing flexo opaque white with opacity and whiteness enabling high quality transparent labels and flexible packaging to be produced fully with LED curing.

“In the past, converting from standard UV flexo technology to food packaging compliant inks has meant compromising on print quality and adhesion,” says Mark Walkling, product manager, ECP Packaging & Narrow Web Labels, Europe, Sun Chemical Ltd. “The modern technology built into SolarFlex LED is based on the same SolarVerse concentrates at the same levels as used in other UV Flexo inks from Sun Chemical, meaning no change in color standards, no change in aniloxes, and no change in color matched formulations. The conversion to LED brings even more challenges, and SolarFlex LED delivers the same high strength inks, the same great rheology and press performance, and the same widespread adhesion characteristics.”
