Hot Without Hot Stamping

Great Western Industries, Dallas, TX, earns Gold Awards from the Paperboard Packaging Council for The Devil Wears Prada DVD sleeve because it delivers the eye-catching impact of a hologram without using hot-stamped holographic foil.
The package has to project the look of a patent-leather shoe. The converter uses a cast-and-cure printing process that follows customary four-color printing plus a UV coating. An additional pass lays down a pliable primer. The primed sheet runs under an embossing film followed by an immediate curing process. The result is a striking holographic look with shimmers of light coming off the shoe.
