Sun Chemical Warns of Possible Ink Shortage

PARSIPPANY, NJ | Sun Chemical says that due to a potential shortage of photoinitiators as reported recently by the European Printing Ink Association (EuPIA), its customers that receive energy-curable inks could experience product delivery delays in the future.

Governmental initiatives and regulations geared toward environmental protection have led many suppliers of photoinitiators to either cease or reduce production for limited periods of time, Sun explains. Additionally, the declaration of a force majeure at a variety of manufacturing plants has led to unplanned maintenance and production outages.

“Sun Chemical is working hard to safeguard supply and mitigate the potential shortage of photoinitiators by qualifying new grades and developing new sources,” says Felipe Mellado, chief marketing officer and board member, Sun Chemical. “We encourage our customers to call their sales representative if they have any questions or concerns.”
