3M Announces Tapes for Splicing & Mounting

ST. PAUL, MN | 3M offers Splittable Flying Splice Tape, said to provide a smooth and reliable splitting mechanism and specially designed adhesive for a variety of surfaces—including polyethylene, polyester, and aluminum foil—enabling print managers to minimize breaks and achieve consistent results without reducing press speed.
Designed with a dark color, the splice can be seen easily regardless of the print color. In addition, 3M Splittable Flying Splice Tape has a fiber-free breakout mechanism that reportedly eliminates debris and fiber to help improve print quality. The tape also features a full back adhesive allowing it to lay flat for easy handling and has no small pieces that can break off during the printing process. helping to save cleanup time and money, company says.
Company also reports Cushion-Mount Plus Plate Mounting Tapes, L-Series with Easy Mount Adhesive provides high quality print by holding plates effectively, resisting plate edge lifting, and requiring less removal force for easy and clean removal of printing plates across a wide range of applications. Designed with company’s proprietary Easy Mount liner, the tape is said to create micro-channels in both adhesive surfaces, allowing air to escape, virtually eliminating air bubbles, and resulting in faster setup and cleaner print quality.
“Flexographic printers no longer have to accept plate damage as a cost of doing business,” says Kevin Hooley, marketing manager at 3M Industrial Adhesives and Tapes Division. “By combining our proven Easy Mount liner with intelligent adhesive technology, flexo printers can experience the highest quality prints at high press speeds, while maximizing profits. We’re striving to make the printing process efficient, without sacrificing quality results.”
The new line complements 3M’s H-Series and E-Series tape portfolios to offer more comprehensive plate mounting solutions for flexo printing applications from narrow web to wide web. The L-Series tape is available in a full line of foam densities for process, combination, and solid printing.
Both products will be showcased at drupa 2016, May 31–June 10, in Düsseldorf, Germany.
