RENO, NV | In keeping with tradition, the Assn. of Intl. Metallizers, Coaters & Laminators (AIMCAL), Ft. Mill, SC, recognized exceptional presenters with its coveted Matteucci Award at its annual fall technical conference, this year held on October 23--26 at the Peppermill Resort. Awards are given to both the best metallizing presenter as well as one for coating and laminating. This year, "because there were so many excellent contenders who could qualify as runners up in the metallizing category," said AIMCAL technical expert Roger Phillips, only one presenter was singled out for the award—Sean Garner of Corning for "Flexible Glass Substrates for Roll to Roll."
In the Coating & Laminating category, a first place award as well as second and third place awards recognized outstanding presenters. From Enercon Industries Corp., Tom Gilbertson’s presentation on "Game Changing Surface Pretreatment" won highest accolades. The paper compares results of corona treatment and plasma treatment technologies. Weighing in with second place was Thomas Rimel (not pictured) of Dunmore for "OSHA’s Voluntary Protection Program (VPP)—To Journey or Not to Journey." As third runner up, PFFC’s own expert contributor Kelly Robinson of Electrostatic Answers was honored for his presentation on "Controlling Static on an Unwinding Roll."
