Toray Lumirror Multi-Layer PET Ideal for IMD Apps

NORTH KINGSTOWN, RI | An advanced manufacturing technology by Toray Plastics (America) has led to the development of Lumirror FA6 PET film, a proprietary, multi-layer polyester (PET) that is said to be ideal for in-mold decorating applications. The film is described as super smooth with an ultra-consistent surface that allows the application of decorative coatings during the converting process. Superior appearance and excellent converting and release properties are claimed especially attractive.

Topographical images of FA6 film are reportedly uniformly flat, with the lack of “peaks and valleys” on the film surface to impart consistency and smoothness. The film also has a rough side to differentiate it from other films to facilitate machining and processing. Said to offer excellent thermal stability along with other properties common to the company’s advanced PET films.
