Ampac to Relocate Pouch Plant, Purchases Totani Machine

CINCINNATI, OH | Ampac, a global leader in the food, pet food, retail, security, and medical packaging markets, announces the relocation of its Elk Grove Village, IL, pouching facilityby October 1,2011, to a larger location approximately 10 miles westin Hanover Park, IL. The new facility is expected to allowa more efficient plant layoutand provide additional space for growth ofits pouching business, including all of its current employees and minimal disruption.
The Elk Grove Village site has experienced steady growth, according to company sources,over the past five years, which included one expansion to the building. Future expansion necessitated the move to the new Hanover Park location with an addtional50,000 sq ft accommodating state-of-the-art pouching-only capabilities.
In addition to the move, the new facility will purchase a Totani BH-60DG-F (SG-6) Box Pouch making machine at this year’s Interpack Show in Dusseldorf, Germany. This purchase is the third pouch format Ampac has added within the past 12 months to its line of Totani pouch machines that run E-Z ZIP, including plow bottom and inserted standup pouch. The new machine is reported the firstglobally to permit two-up box pouch capability unlike other standard press-to-close zipper box pouch machines that are said to run a one-up format.
The Totani Box Pouch machine can be used in a wide range of packaging applications, including food such as candy and cereal, pharmaceuticals, household cleaning products and other liquids, pet food, medical bags, pouches, and multi-pack pouch formats.
The machine has five-panel registered print capability and can accommodate most laminated films used in pouches for food and industrial applications. The manufacturer claims a savings of approximately 12% in film is realized when compared to a conventional standup pouch with the same fill capacity. The technology is claimedto performboth high-speed box pouch making (up to 200 pouches/minuteĀ), as well as high-quality, high strength sealing which makes the box pouch suitable for storage and transportation of not only solids but also liquids due to its high seal integrity.
