BEDFORD, UK | Atlas Converting Equipment Ltd. (UK) has announced the sale of a Titan ER610 compact slitter off the booth at the ICE USA exhibition, held April 6–8, 2011, in Orlando, FL, to Plasticos Especializados de Monterrey S.A. de C.V. (Plemsa) of Mexico. The 65-in.-wide slitter was demonstrated during the exhibition.
The ER610 is a twin-shaft cantilever slitter and is reported a more sustainable slitting and rewinding solution. It has reduced power but all electric, oil-free operation without hydraulics, a CCD edge-guide camera for reducing waste, a running speed of 1,500 fpm and an option for slit widths as narrow as 1.37 in. With a simple design enabling quick and easy installation, the ER610 has extended the Titan slitter portfolio by meeting the needs of converters, says the company,to process lower volumes and shorter runs of flexible packaging materials.
“We have been very satisfied with the performance of the first Titan ER610 slitter, which we installed at the beginning of last year,” explains Armando Vazquez Castillo, director of the Plemsa Plastics Div. “We have other older Titan SR Series slitters which have been running well for the last 10–15 years, so we knew that reliability of the new Titan machine would not be an issue. Our business has expanded rapidly in the last few years and we needed additional high performance slitting capacity in Monterrey to keep up with increased demand. So it made complete sense to buy our second ER610 slitter from the ICE USA show, as it was already in Florida!”
The Plemsa Group was established in 1957 and produces a wide range of flexible packaging materials mainly for food applications with facilities for blown film extrusionand co-extrusion, flexo printing, lamination, slitting and bag production. Plemsa has production facilities in Monterrey and at its group company Plastinal located in Mexico City. It also has offices located in Guadalajara.
The Plemsa Group supplies flexible packaging materials throughout Mexico and since 1988 has developed substantial sales of its products to customers in the US as well asCentral and South America.
The Titan ER610 is available intwo web widths (53-in. and 65-in.) with a maximum rewind diameter of 24 in. It also features a 10-in.touch screen control system and an integral edge-trim extraction system. The pneumatically controlled braking system provides accurate web tension control and a digital edge-guide system controls lateral movement of the unwind reel to+2 in.Slitting systems available include shear knives, rotary razor (burst), or razor slitting in air or groove. Optional features on the Plemsa machine include a static electricity control system, laser (line) core positioning, EU safety guarding, laser safety scanners, and shaftless unwind roll pick-up from floor.
The Titan ER610 slitter can process a wide range of flexible materials, says the company, including plain, printed, coated, or metallized film from 20 to 200 micron, a wide range of laminates, and paper from 30 to 200 gsm.
