Flex Americas To Double BOPET Production

ALTAMIRA, TAMAULIPAS, MEXICO | Flex Americas S.A. de C.V., a leading manufacturer of high quality packaging films that started operations in March 2009, plans to double its capacity of biaxially oriented polyester (BOPET) film. The facility started with an 8.7-m-wide BOPET line and reportedly achieved 100% capacity within a few months at an initial investment of US $100 million. With this next phase, installing another 8.7-m-wide Dornier BOPET line along with a plasma-enhanced high-barrier vacuum metallizer, another US $50 million will be invested to turn out 36,000 MT (80 million lb). With the new line in Mexico, there will be a total of seven BOPET lines, generating up to a total of 196,000 MT (almost 435 million lb) starting up by early 2011. Flex Americas S.A. de C.V. is a subs. of UFLEX Ltd., claimed the world’s only fully vertically integrated flexible packaging manufacturer located in Noida, India. Total group revenues were near US $800 million in 2009, supplying flexible packaging materials to customer in almost 100 countries all over the world. Plants are located in India, Dubai, and Mexico. Another green-field plant is being built near Cairo, Egypt with an 8.7-m-wide biaxially oriented polypropylene film. It's expected to come on line in the second half of 2010.
