Applied Films Receives Innovation Award

PRESS RELEASE

ALZENAU, GERMANY—ICE (Intl. Converting Exhibition) honored Applied Films with its 2005 Innovation Award for Applied Films' technology for producing color shift layers on plastic film by using electron-beam evaporation, the Fabry Perot Filter. When viewed from different angles, the colored shift layers change their reflected color.

The Fabry Perot Filter consists of a three-layer stack: a thick metallic base layer on the plastic film acts as a mirror (aluminum), a middle transparent oxide layer (AI2O3) allows light to reflect in different colors depending on its thickness, and a top semi-transparent thin metallic layer (aluminum). Applied Films' TOPBEAM system can produce Fabry Perot Filter layers with a typical coating speed of 20 meters per min.
