Uflex Develops Melamine-Free BOPET

NOIDA, INDIA | Uflex reports there has been growing demand from western food and beverages brands for melamine-free packaging, noting that while melamine adds strength to packaging, it has proven to have serious side effects that have affected both infants and pets. For this reason the company has developed Grade F-AMF, a melamine-free acrylic coated biaxially oriented polyethylene terephthalate (BOPET) clear transparent film. Reportedly, it is finding extensive use in conversion, printing, hot fill, retort, pasteurization, and sterilization, among other applications.

Company says the trials have yielded excellent results in terms of nil melamine content, good printability, and enhanced lamination bond, and the film exhibits good transparency and clarity along with excellent machinability and handling properties. One-side primer coating provides emphatic adhesion with inks and adhesives. The acrylic coated surface is also recommended for surface printing. The other side of film surface can be corona treated. The film is said to possess good mechanical, surface, and thermal properties and ensuring excellent processability. This film has been specially developed for f/f/s machines.
