DÜSSELDORF, GERMANY | A total of 2,700 exhibitors from 60 countries at the recently held interpack 2011 exhibition are reported to hale the show unanimously, says sources at Messe Düsseldorf North America, as one of the most successful events in the show’s 53-year history of the “world’s leading international trade fair for the packaging sector and related processing industries.” All 19 halls were fully booked during the May 12—18 triennial event.
A significant increase in the proportion of decision makers, compared to interpack 2008, was noted with almost 75% of the trade visitors reported from the management level, according to a visitor survey. Many of the attendees, it is claimed, came with specific orders, and exhibitors expect an extremely lucrative post-show business. And, over 100,000 (or 60%) of the 166,000 trade visitors travelled to interpack from countries outside of Germany. Visitors found the range of exhibits to be expansive with special focus on sustainability, safety, and convenience.
Christian Traumann, president of interpack 2011 and managing director of exhibitor Multivac Sepp Haggenmüller reported, “At our stand, there was huge interest in our products. We generated 30% more contacts than at interpack 2008, including members from the top management, brand manufacturers, and many potential new customers. We heard the same from numerous other exhibitors. interpack has confirmed the stability of the positive economic trends.”
Highlights included the following:
• A special highlight was the US Pavilion, organized by Messe Düsseldorf North America. A total of 33 exhibitors showcased their latest technologies within this successful group exhibit. Overall, 98 US exhibitors took part in the trade fair.
• The debut of SAVE FOOD campaign on May 16—17 demonstrated how each stage in the packaging value chain can help in the worldwide fight against wasting of food. Organized by Messe Düsseldorf in cooperation with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, it involved over 300 participants from all over the world—ranging from producers and the packaging industry to retailers and politicians as well as society and non-government organizations.
• The special themes INNOVATIONPARC PACKAGING and METAL PACKAGING PLAZA were also extremely popular. Five different shops—on the themes of Health, Meaning, Aesthetics, Simplicity, and Identity—brought together companies from across the value chain with the motto of “Quality of Life.” Developed specifically for the special show, these stores presented best practices and visions for the future.
The next interpack is slated for 2014 at the Fairgrounds in Düsseldorf, Germany. Exact dates will be announced at a later date.
