Mondi Industrial Bags, Vienna, Austria, reports it has developed the world's first biodegradable industrial bag. Terra Bag consists of a paper bag (one or more plies) with a corn-based film for humidty protection. The entire bag is optimized for industrial composting, breaking down within 12 wk after use and resulting in humus suitable for agriculture or gardening. The bag, which presents no constraints in filling speed, is a collaboration with cement producer Ciments Galcia, film extruder Barbier, and cereals producer Limagrain. Visit www.mondigroup.com.
