PSSMA Announces 2022 Safety Award Winners

The Paper Shipping Sack Manufacturers’ Association (PSSMA) has announced the winners of its annual Safety Awards Program for paper shipping sack manufacturing plants in 2022. These awards were presented to company representatives at the PSSMA’s Production Managers’ Seminar, held May 18, 2023 at the Embassy Suites Nashville Downtown Hotel in Nashville, Tennessee. PSSMA Chairman Dale Stevens, Hood Packaging, noted the industry’s safety incidence rate of 2.6 reported for 2022 was one of the lowest achieved in recent years.
The Best Annual Safety Experience awards were determined on the basis of lowest total recordable incidence rate in each of the four annual manhour categories in 2022. The paper shipping sack manufacturing plants that achieved the Best Annual Safety Experience in 2022 in the man-hour categories shown are:
Less than 150,000 manhours - A tie: Bag Supply Company, Moody, Alabama Plant; Hood Packaging Corporation, Hazleton, Pennsylvania Plant; Northeast Packaging Company, Caribou, Maine Plant
150,000 to 220,000 manhours - SeaTac Packaging Mfg. Corp., Puyallup, Washington Plant
220,000 to 320,000 manhours - A tie: Mondi Bags USA, Romeoville, Illinois Plant; Mondi Bags USA, Wellsburg, West Virginia Plant
Over 320,000 manhours - Hood Packaging Corporation, Crossett, Arkansas Plant
The Greatest Annual Safety Improvement awards were determined on the basis of greatest decrease in total recordable incidence rates reported in 2022 compared to 2021.
The paper shipping sack manufacturing plants that achieved the Greatest Annual Safety Improvement in 2022 in the man-hour categories shown are:
Less than 150,000 manhours - Langston Companies, West Memphis, Arkansas Plant
150,000 to 220,000 manhours - Hood Packaging Corporation, Hanford, California Plant
220,000 to 320,000 manhours - Hood Packaging Corporation, Hamlet, North Carolina Plant
Over 320,000 manhours - Bancroft Bag, Inc., West Monroe, Louisiana Plant
