Nordson Divisions Collaborate to Achieve Unprecedented Flat Profile Time
- Published: April 10, 2025
Nordson Measurement & Control Solutions (a division of Nordson Corporation) is a global leading provider of gauging systems for the film extrusion and converting industries. Nordson Corporation specializes in manufacturing industrial equipment and components. Among the other divisions of the group is Nordson Polymer Processing Systems, which builds extrusion dies under the EDI® brand.
Recently, Nordson Polymer Processing Systems launched ProdigiT™, an innovative adjustment system that utilizes a series of motorized actuators to control the die's lip gap. This new system achieves tolerances four times faster than conventional thermal bolt systems, supporting operations' need for increased sustainability.
Through collaboration between the two divisions, Nordson Measurement & Control Solutions has developed a control system that seamlessly integrates the EDI®
Prodigit™ head with the MCS measurement systems, creating a closed-loop profile control system. With Nordson MCS's fast Automatic Profile Control (APC) and the EDI® Prodigit™ die, manufacturers can achieve a flat profile in a fraction of the time compared to traditional heated bolt heads. Specifically, it takes about 30 to 40 seconds to achieve a flat profile with recipe loading at startup and a few minutes starting from a 30 to 40 percent variation at startup.
This advancement offers substantial cost savings on startups and recipe changes.
