Teeth, Carton: Both Shine

An Aquafresh White & Shine toothpaste carton from GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) is awarded the 2010 Greener Package Award by Packaging World magazine. The carton combines MiraFoil metallic coating (see PFFC, March 2010, p48) from Henkel, Bridgewater, CT, with Holobrite filmless holographic technology by The Specialized Packaging Group, Philadelphia, PA. According to Michael Larocca, GSK packaging development manager, “This is the first package in its category to combine both MiraFoil and HoloBrite, replacing a traditional holographic lamination with inks and coatings to achieve a comparable look.” He says the package eliminates the challenges of recycling paperboard cartons that contain polyester laminations.
