Vinyl film eliminates layer of polyethylene

An Aclar-laminated rigid-vinyl film eliminating the middle layer of polyethylene is available for high-barrier pharmaceutical applications from Klockner Barrier Films, a subsidiary of Klockner Pentaplast of America Inc., Gordonsville, VA.

The film can be ordered with or without a layer of polyethylene. However, eliminating the polyethylene has advantages over conventional three-layer laminations, including reduced haze value, material source reduction, less scrap and up to 25% more linear feet for a given outside roll diameter. Longer rolls can lead to faster, more efficient production as film changeovers and the down-time they require are reduced, according to the company.

"The excellent machinability of the new laminate is the result of our ability to adjust the vinyl's forming characteristics to complement Aclar's machine performance," Mike Tubridy, marketing director, Klockner Pentaplast, said.
