Living in Technologically Interesting Times

I am very excited to lead the Polymers, Laminations and Coatings Division during these interesting times. Everyone will probably agree that the world is changing fast and furiously. The industries that comprise our members are no exception. How many recent mergers and acquisitions can you list? What technology are you using today that did not even exist a few years ago? How much has technology changed your life at home and at work? Trying to remain current with changes in the world and our industry is a job in itself. Simply think about how much you have had to learn on your own to remain current.

The Polymers, Laminations and Coatings Division is also changing. Such change is necessary for survival. This division is going to be fast, fluid, flexible, and FUN. I am striving toward that goal! This new attitude will allow the division to ensure that its meetings are interesting and informative.

Our division must provide its customers an opportunity to network with peers in an arena that promotes stimulating technical discussions. The ability to obtain more information faster does not make that information better. Frequently, so-called new technology comes with a strong marketing slant and little substance.

Bold statements involving terms such as better, faster, more output, or higher quality often lack relevant comparison. This makes conference, symposium, and short course venues more important to help attendees understand through networking and personal involvement the true value of new technology for their business.

Some people reading "the PLACE" may not be familiar with the Polymers, Laminations and Coatings Division. Its growth and continued success have resulted from the efforts of people proclaiming the benefits of its events to friends, customers, and colleagues. I know this new publication will introduce the division to more people with interest in our topics.

Although I am a member of several societies and associations, the Polymers, Laminations and Coatings Division is very special to me. I believe the interests of the group have more focus on the technical aspects of the packaging and converting industries. We make an extra effort to present relevant data that is immediately useful in daily jobs. I therefore encourage you to come to one of our events. See for yourself. You will profit from participation and enjoy yourself! Please contact me by e-mail at This email address is being protected from spambots.
